Dege Legg aka Brother Dege was a force. His list of accomplishments in art, music, and writing will forever be remembered for generations to come. Yet, what is overlooked, is Dege's giving heart to those less fortunate and in need. Be it his work at Lafayette's St. Joseph's Men Shelter, to his support for the local homeless, Dege always had a soft spot for those less fortunate; those "fighting the good fight" as he would often say. After we lost Dege on March 8th, 2024, a group of friends, family, former bandmates, and various donors from around the world, organized and funded a glorious mural in his honor. Though without a doubt Dege would have been overjoyed by this act of love and honor bestowed upon him, I know the one thing he would want more than anything would be a to help others in need.
Along with Dege's only son, Myecah Carrier, and lifelong friends, Krishna Kasturi, and myself, we have set forth to create "The Dege Leggacy Foundation". The goal is to establish a permanent charitable fund that will support various charitable initiatives dear to Dege's heart, all while helping the less fortunate in his name while fostering his spirit. Without a doubt, Dege would have wanted it this way.
In order to establish this fund through the Community Foundation Of Acadiana, a $10,000 minimum contribution balance must be met before we can start helping the hungry, the homeless, and those that struggle with mental health, etc.. We intend to include the foundation in future tribute concerts, album releases, video releases, and his official website and social media accounts. 100% of all money generated for the foundation and inevitably used by the foundation will go to charities in his Dege's name. We are grateful for anything you can do to help us see this dream come to fruition. It's a bittersweet act of selfless giving that will benefit the souls of everyone.
Aim For the Light...
